Ulu Braun

Ulu Braun was born 1976 in Schongau, Germany. He works and lives in Berlin. From 1996 to 2005 he studied painting and experimental film at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, film at the Film and Television University in Potsdam and at the time/space department at the Academy of fine Arts Helsinki, Finnland.

Ulu Braun has been using the medium of video to explore the field between the visual arts and auteur cinema since 1997. He is one of the key figures who have transferred painting into video art and have played a significant role in defining and further developing the genre of video collage. He is a member of the artist collective YKON and co-founder of the artistic duo BitteBitteJaJa.

His works have been exhibited at, among others: KW Berlin, Hirshhorn Museum (Washington D.C.), Shedhalle Zürich, MARTa Herford, Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Berlinische Galerie, Young Projects L.A, Athens Biennale, Kunsthalle Wien and Kunstmuseum Bonn. In 2011 Ulu Braun was awarded the Kunstfonds grant, 2013 the German Short Film Award and 2014 with the Berlin Art Prize. His films have been show at numerous film festivals, including: Berlinale, Int. Film Festival Rotterdam, Sarajevo Film Festival, Guanajuato Int. Film Festival, Hong Kong Int. Film Festival, Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Diagonale Graz, 25 FPS, Zagreb.
